BAC/IMI National Training Center

BAC University nears completion
The new BAC/IMI National Training Center, now under construction in Bowie, Maryland, is due for completion in early 2007. Dubbed "BAC University" by BAC president and IMI co-chair John J. Flynn, the campus has a 61,000-square-foot training center and 46,000-square-foot dormitory. Career-long training will be available to BAC members.

The center will complement BAC (International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers) and IMI (International Masonry Institute) training programs throughout North America. The facilities will host many programs, including:

Pre-job and advanced training programs
Curriculum and standards development
Training management system database
Organizing support
BAC/IMI apprentice contest
Masonry camp
New product and systems evaluation
Constructability research
Certification programs
Instructor certification program
Supervisor certification program
Contractor college
Professional education for architects, engineers and CMs

Industry outreach
A state-of-the-art flagship campus also provides the opportunity to expand programs to reach greater audiences. The popular masonry camp, for example, has brought together apprentices, young designers and students. The new facilities will enable an expansion of the program to practicing architects, construction managers and contractors, as well as offer a greater number of sessions.
